It gets an awesome 39 miles per gallon on the highway and 31 miles per gallon in the city, and it has one of the lowest starting prices around for a hatchback at approximately $12,000.

The Kia Rio get an average of 33 miles per gallon and have similarly low starting prices, making them among the most affordable and fuel efficient cars as well.

The Ford Fiesta falls in a similar price range and gets 34 miles per gallon from its inline four-cylinder engine, putting it right in the mix as well. Toyota is obviously known for making fuel efficient vehicles, so it should come as no surprise that the Yaris gets 33 miles per gallon, including an impressive 30 miles per gallon in the city.
